I have a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition. I realize that it has the same system pretty much as a TI-83 Plus.but I'm finding that most of the games I'm downloading for it aren't working. I'm using TI-83(+) games.NOT TI-83 games.and they still are not working. It's mostly games that require the ION shell that seem to be messed up. I've downloaded the ION and MirageOS shell but Super Mario.Pacman99, etc. still do not work. I've tried Galaxian to no avail. Does anyone have any information that might help? Thank You!

Are you getting any error messages? Those might help, however, if you're new to the 83+series, then you probably have a full RAM.
Make sure you archive all of your programs, as ION and MirageOS automatically unarchive them to play the games. To check your archive status, look at your memory status (I'm not sure of the keystrokes on the 84, look at your manual) and make sure all progarms are archived (Archived programs have a * next to their names).

At first I WAS having problems with the RAM memory - I didn't have enough to run some of the programs but I figured it out. I repeatedly get 'ERR:SYNTAX' I'm usually only given the QUIT or GOTO options. Wow.You guys really answer pretty quick. I was afraid I might have to wait around for some help! Thanks!flournnoi

Maybe part of the problem is that they are assembly.I'm not sure if there is something else I need to do in order to run an assembly program. I've currently got galaxian unarchived. If I archive it and try to run it the 'ERR:ARCHIVED' shows up.which is probably what is supposed to happen (not sure) and then I get the old 'ERR:SYNTAX'. It says that program runs under the ION shell.but Galaxian doesn't show up when I open up the shell.neither does pac-man99 or Super Mario.allynfolksjr

Um, thats weird, if you're using the right shell, and trying both shells to run the ASM programs. Was the galaxian that you sent to the calc had the .8xp extension, or the .83p extension? Besure to send the .8xp one.flournnoi

I couldn't see the extensions on the Galaxian files - There was a GALAXAN2 and galaxan 2 (for the new design) and a GALAXIAN and galaxian for (classic design). Somewhere I thought I had read that the Uppercase programs were usually for the PLUS calculators. I wasn't sure about it so I tried all of them.and none of them worked. Is this a problem with my calc? I was thinking maybe the ION shell wasn't compatible.even though it's basically the same calc as the TI-83(+). It has only said that the ION shell was for the TI-83(+), but I guess it should definitely work on the TI-84 then. I'm getting a botched screen when I open up the prgmA.if I press 2nd while the window is open part of the screen will slant. zkostik

Have you tried MirageOS as your shell? I heard it works fine on 84 series and it runs nearly all ION games. I suggest you try that shell and then report back and we'll go from there.

I have MirageOS as a shell on my calc..and I was hoping I could use it instead of ION to access all these ION games.but I'm unsure how to run them through MirageOS. Is there some way I need to import them into the shell? They do not 'automatically' show up in the main folder. Do I need to completely remove ION in order to run these through Mirage? Sometimes Mirage freezes up when I have my calculator on and I have to remove a battery in order to reset it.I end up losing anything I DO happen to have in RAM.allynfolksjr

No, mirageOS needs no setting up to run, and ION and Mirage both run just fine together. And that ION screen seems very strange indeed. Um, I assume you're reading the readmes, if you installed ION alright.zkostik

There is sometimes a problem with ION which makes it not detect programs if they were loaded onto the calc before the shell. Btw, make sure ION is not archived or else it won't run. Try some programs known to work on 84 such as Phoenix. Try not to archive everything to eliminate any problems that may be caused by archive. Btw, does ION shell itself run and does MirageOS interface show up?

I've read all the readmes.ION seems to set up correctly. I set it up with the IONZ and the ZMINFO file (which it says can be deleted later). I leave them on. I figured that the games being installed BEFORE ION was put on there might have been the problem too.so I deleted them and tried reinstalling them again. This did not work. The prgmA (ION) will open.but the only ION game that has been recognized through it is Breakout. The MirageOS opens fine.but I'm still having the problem where it freezes up and I have to remove a batter to reset the RAM. I repeatedly tried all of these things. These games just aren't recognized anywhere. Not in ION.nor in MirageOS. I'm not sure at all what is causing MirageOS to freeze. I made sure I unarchived the files I could not use in order to see if that was the problem, but I guess it wasn't.allynfolksjr

Okay, try these, I suspect you might have a archive/memory problem:
1. Make a simple BASIC program, or download one, and archive it, and then unarchive it, then try to run it.
other than that, I'm stumped.flournnoi

Lol, at least it passed the Benchmark. I'm kinda disappointed..Galaxian was the game that I was most interested in playing, but Phoenix is just as great. I think Phoenix was the original anyway. There's got to be another Pac-Man game I can download somewhere - I guess I'll try that. Maybe it's just the program.not the calculator. I took ION off of my calculator for now. The only game that showed up (breakout) was the file I believe that was actually written by the author of ION.maybe that's why it worked. I did think it was a little odd that the screen warped like that when I pressed 2nd.it did it with 'Clear' and 'Del' too. I'm sorry this problem has taken up too much of your time without an easier resolution. Thanks for your help guys! I really appreciate it!

I went back and tried to reinstall the older version of Super Mario (1.2) and it worked fine. Then I deleted it and I Tried to install version 2.0 and it installed and showed up but then I got a slanting screen again. I think ION was creating the problems that I was having with MirageOS to begin with. MirageOS kept freezing when I had ION installed.I took it off, quit having the problems, and then I re-installed Mario 2.0, it froze again. So neither one of these work evidently. Version 1.2 is working great.flournnoi

LOL.NM. I'm really beginning to lose patience with this calculator. I reinstalled 1.2 and now the graphics are botched even though it installs. So I guess I should forget about that.zkostik

Hmm..what operating system did your calc come with? Press [2nd] then [+] and then choose the option lebeled 'about'. It'll tell you a version of the OS you're running (like 1.15 or 1.16). Maybe it's an older OS and you may need to update it with the most current one from TI website. Just a guess, but hey, just making sure everything's updated.

Yeah, but you'd think TI would ship the 84+SE's with at least 1.16, but you never know..flournnoi

It came loaded with 2.21. I messed around with it some more last night (this is the next morning for me) and.I think it was this game I had on it called asteroids. So far I've been able to load Galaxian now and Phoenix.I have breakout on there. The rest I'm afraid of. I tried to put asteroids back on and it did something really funky. I would press 'clear' to get out of the game.and it finally exited but then I looked through my programs and alot of the games I had downloaded weren't showing up. They DID show up in MirageOS but not on the programs screen. I've had so much bad luck with TI. After I took asteroids off.I ended up playing Galaxian until 4:30 in the morning, lol. Mario still isn't working.that gets me how it worked the first time fine and THEN it messed up.flournnoi

At this point I'm just going to completely erase the archived and RAM memory and start fresh. Maybe that'll make a difference.
